PROJECT INTRODUCTION TO THE COUNTIES

From 6th March 2015, The Research Chair together with other investigators started visiting the Administrative and Health county offices of the 6 covered counties to introduce the project and clarify the importance of the study to the counties.

This process was very successful and the idea was well received and embraced by the counties which promised to provide necessary assistance to ensure a successful conclusion.

This undertaking was successfully concluded by end of April

INTERVIEWS OF ENUMERATORS

On 11th June 2015, Interviews for Enumerators were held at Riley Mother and Baby Hospital where successful candidates were employed. Their work was to carry out household inventory and baseline survey in Kiminini - Trans-nzoia county, Kesses - Uasin-gishu county, Nyaru- Elgeyo marakwet county, Kabula - Bungoma county, Obekai - Busia county and Nyaporo Kakamega county.

ENUMERATORS TRAINING

Training of Enumerators was done from the 18th to 22nd June 2015 at the Riley Mother and Baby Hospital Conference hall. All Investigators participated in the exercise.

HOUSEHOLD INVENTORY

Household inventory / mapping started on the 29th of June and ended on 15th July 2015, paving way for the commencement of baseline survey on 20th July 2015

MEETING WITH DMS

On 30th June 2015, the Research chair and Deputy Research chair had a meeting with the Director of Medical Services (DMS) at the Ministry of Health offices

The Chair also had a meeting with IDRC (International Development Research Centre) Officials.

BASELINE LAUNCHING

From 20th July 2015, Investigators moving round the six counties to officially launch the baseline survey. From 20th to 24th July, the order of launching was as follows: Busia, Kakamega, Bungoma, Trans nzoia and Elgeyo marakwet. Launching in Kesses was done on 28th July 2015.

At the same time, Investigators also started visiting all the County Referral Hospitals, Health Centres and Dispensaries in the study areas for assessment of the Staffing, Inpatient beds, infrastructure, available services, pharmacy and structure and governance of the facilities

MEETING WITH BUSIA CHM TEAM

On 17th September 2015, the URCHS team had a stake holders meeting with the Busia County Health Management Team at the Quills hotel. The purpose of the meeting being to have an overview of the URCHS project and proposed intervention in Busia county and their inputs towards the success of the project.

SKILLED HEALTH WORKER INTERVIEW

Interviews for the skilled health worker to be based at Obekai was conducted on 3rd November 2015 at the Riley Mother and Baby Hospital



TRAINING AT OBEKAI

On the weekend of 21st and 22nd November 2015 and that of 28th and 29th November, trainings were held at Obekai Dispensary. Skilled health workers and Community health workers both from the URCHS team and County team were trained in preparation for the commencement of the Intervention.

The Intervention will take place at the Obekai dispensary.

TRAINING AT KABULA

On the weekend of 26th and 27th November 2016,training was held at St Patricks Pastoral Centre Kabula. Skilled health workers and Community health workers were re-trained by the URCP team as part of control site ongoing training programs.

DATA OFFICE

All the URCHS Data is controlled from one centre at Alupe Data office. The Data entry, Data verification and Data cleaning is professionally done by a very compitent team of Data Assistants and Manager.

MEETING SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS

The URCP Team meets the PHD and Masters Scholarship students biannually where the students give their progress reports. In addition, the supervisors (URCP Members) allocated to these students give quarterly reports on the progress of the students. One such meeting was held in January 2017.

MONTHLY MONITORING MEETINGS

The URCP Team members visit Obekai on scheduled monthly visits and whenever necessary to monitor progress of the intervention, ensure protocol is adhered to and general wellfare of the participants and staff at the dispensary. It is also a time to mingle and share experiences and advice on the best way to provide services to the participants.
